Dr Layani's Obesity Surgery Centre
With obesity levels reaching epidemic proportions in society, weight loss surgery has emerged as a popular and potentially life-saving option. Many people who suffer from obesity (a BMI reading of 35 or greater) and morbid obesity (BMI greater than 40) have little or no success with conventional weight reduction treatments.
Doctors are starting to recognise that obesity can be diagnosed as a disease, rather than a lack of willpower on the patient's part to take control of their health. Whilst dieting can assist them with weight loss, the loss is only temporary and usually minimal; a more permanent solution needs to be considered.

Lap Band Surgery
Lap Band surgery (also known as obesity surgery, laparoscopic banding, bariatric surgery or gastric banding) has emerged as a safe and viable option, with over 180,000 of the procedures having been performed worldwide.
The Lap Band is applied via key hole surgery, which is less invasive than open surgery, and generally allows the patient to return to normal every day activities within a couple of days.
The gastric band is placed around the upper part of the stomach and aids in reducing portion sizes with main meals, helping patients overcome their struggle with overeating and uncontrollable hunger. The procedure is adjustable and reversible and does not involve any cutting or stapling. Find out about the lap band procedure here.
At Dr Layani's Obesity Surgery Centre on the Gold Coast, you are supported before, during and after the procedure by our team of dedicated professionals.
Operating from: John Flynn Private Hospital (Tugun)
*Half cost applies to patients who are privately insured and does not refer to additional out of pocket costs such as anaesthetist fees. Non-insured patients are also eligible to recieve a reduction in the cost of the procedure ($2500) which will help reduce the total cost to them.
