Band Date: April 2009

Weight Lost: 20kg

I had yo yo dieted for most of my life, though the last 7yrs had gained the most weight ever, I had reached my heaviest 88.5kg, at 147cm, what doesn’t go up goes out if you know what I mean..

My mother is Morbidly Obese at over 200kg, in a nursing home after a fall, unable to get herself up off the bathroom floor, unable to call for help.

Not realising just how much weight was creeping on, I noticed that I was starting to do things my mother did, like leaning on the sink to wash up, leaning on the trolley when shopping and other things like, ankles swelling, shortness of breath. My father, his mother and his siblings all passed away at a young age with Diabetes related deaths.

I also noticed I was loosing my confidence, I had started to become bitter and unhappy and the list goes on and on....

While at work a workmate said she was having Lap band surgery, my reaction was 'that's a bit drastic, isn’t it! I couldn’t understand how she could be so excited about surgery. I had just lost 13kg on Tony Ferguson.

12mths later she was looking great & I had gained that 13kg back plus another 7kg. That's when I decided I needed to look into Lap band, I watched the whole surgery from start to finish on YouTube went into all the forums, spoke to my friend and made an informed decision.

I went to my GP who gave me a referral, not exactly rolling in cash we applied for our Superannuation, within a matter of weeks from my decision, to seeing the team, my surgery was done. By this time I was also Pre-diabetes.

Right now 13mths later I am over 20kg lighter, now in the 60's not the 80's, a lot healthier, a lot happier, more confident and now don't even mind my photo being taken. I am only 1/2 way to my goal, but with my Lap band to help me and the support of my husband and daughter this will be a breeze.

The Team and Dr Layani have been fantastic, they have been supportive and always able answer any question I have had. Dr Layani, well he is such a sweetie with a lovely yet professional bedside manner.

Thanks guys you have saved my life.
