Available Clinical Support Options

When you proceed with lap band surgery, you are entitled to an entire support package that spans the surgery and the following 12 months.

Included in your package are a number of consultations with our dietitian and psychologist, unlimited consultations and assistance by our patient liaisons and no out of pocket costs for 12 months of adjustments post surgery.

It is important that you maintain contact with the clinic, ensuring you have regular adjustments to suit your lifestyle and maintain ongoing comfort while optimising your weight loss.

There are a range of minor side effects that may or may not be cause for concern as follows:

Vomiting - Patients may vomit or feel pain after food intake. This can be caused either by poor eating behaviour e.g. eating too fast, not chewing food well enough, or following an adjustment which may have restricted the band too much.

Pregnancy - The period between surgery and weight stabilisation is considered to be a period of starvation, so it is unadvisable to become pregnant during this time. At times, even a small amount of weight loss can result in a long awaited and much anticipated pregnancy, but for the health of the mother and baby we recommend waiting at least 12 months following surgery to continue on with pregnancy attempts.

Should you experience any of the following, please contact the clinic:

  • Temperature over 38 degrees celcius
  • Nausea or vomiting
  • Increased pain
  • Difficulty Swallowing
  • Leg pain
  • Prolonged Constipation
