Dr Layani qualified in France and specialises in gastro-intestinal and general surgery. He was in the first intake for accredited laparoscopic surgeons and completed his post graduate laparoscopic surgical training in Paris in 1994.
Since 1994 he has been working with major teaching hospitals in Melbourne, the Monash Medical Centre, and in Brisbane at the Royal Brisbane Hospital. He has been practising on the Gold Coast since December 1999. Dr Layani has had considerable experience with laparoscopic gastric banding surgery and has achieved consistent positive results. He says that his lap band patients are often the happiest patients he sees.
Dr Layani believes that the success of laparoscopic gastric banding depends largely on having a team of professionals who work together towards long term sustained weight loss.
